Situated in the historical theatre district of Minneapolis is Le Méridien Chambers, an extraordinary boutique hotel. Like its sister hotel in NewYork, artistic works belonging to the local protagonist of the interior are on display here.
A total of 200 contemporary original works belonging to the private art collection of hotel owner Ralph Burnet are spread throughout the rooms. The hotel has 60 rooms and five suites with an individual and minimalistic design to allow the artwork to be featured, yet they may perhaps have an artistic value of their own.
The project, commissioned with the Rockwell Group, comprised the renovation of two buildings from the turn of the century and their combination to create a unique hotel. The architects chose Corten steel and sand-blasted natural stone for the facade, while walls, a white terrace floor, and wood planks inside would imitate the character of a gallery and serve as a canvas for changing exhibitions. The rooms and suites are modern and minimalistic, whereby the art is the prominently featured.
The artistic demands and high quality of the facilities permeate the baths, which are equipped with collections from Villeroy & Boch. The unique form of the Aveo collection, for instance, was created by Conran & Partner, and matches the distinct lines of the popular Subway collection, which can be combined with the Central Line furniture series. The products were adapted locally for non-European standards and connections.
