Elisa Rodríguez Checa shared the studio's approach to hotel renovation and the importance of preserving the identity of spaces in a new contract session that also featured Supratex and Aistec.
On 15 October, docontract MAD hosted a new contract session featuring Elisa Rodríguez Checa, Co-founder & Creative Director of Checa Woid, entitled “The luxury of uniqueness: designing, restoring, transforming”. The event offered an insight into the studio's distinctive approach to interior design and the transformation of hotel spaces. The session also featured Tobías Madueño, CEO of Supratex, and Carlos Castillo, Sales Director at Aistec, representing two of the brands based at the showroom.
The session began with a presentation by Tobías Madueño from Supratex, who discussed the finite lifespan of textiles and the importance of recycling and reusing these materials to give them a second life. Although textiles age and tend to deteriorate over time, a significant proportion can be recovered and reused. During his presentation, he explored different ways of repurposing fabrics and highlighted how recycling, traditionally driven by economic considerations, has now become a matter of sustainability.
Carlos Castillo from Aistec then introduced the company and some of its most representative products. He presented several case studies showcasing the use of acoustic panels, their different applications and the possibilities for reusing offcuts generated during the manufacturing process. He concluded his presentation by introducing three product families made from natural fibres.
Elisa Rodríguez explained how Checa Woid approaches hotel renovation projects by treating existing elements as valuable assets. Through the recovery, reuse and enhancement of materials, architectural features and resources already present in a space, the studio develops proposals that preserve its history while creating a new identity. Elisa outlined the methodology and decisions involved in this process: how to identify what deserves to be preserved, how to integrate it into a contemporary design language and how to turn it into a distinctive feature of the hotel experience. An approach that brings together architecture, interior design and sustainability to create unique, authentic spaces with a character of their own.
Following the presentations, Ana Sanz, Showroom Manager at docontract MAD, moderated a panel discussion featuring questions from the audience. The event concluded with a short afterwork networking session.
